What is Waste for Food Project

Waste for Food was the first project of our organization. This project aims to implement the technology of composting and show community members the power they have to create a new way of interacting with Mother Earth.

By teaching community members at residential and commercial level about composting, we hope to inspire change in their habits, therefore creating less waste and a healthier community all around.

Through out this project, Casa Pampa team is dedicated to educating the public that our own personal organic waste, whether in our homes or businesses, are our responsibility.

We have an important resource right at our fingertips and we strongly believe it should not go to waste.

Waste for Food brings tangible tools to create a nutritious rich soil from the organic waste and transforme it into healthy organic fruit and veggies.

Be it that there is no current system in place by government to collect and utilize the organic waste to its potential, we believe it is in the hands of the community members to initiate change.

Through the efforts of Casa Pampa Team and and the local community, we have the opportunity to demonstrate to our government the necessity and value of a compost program locally, nationally and eventually globally as we are aware that this way we are contributing to reduce global warming and climate change.

How we started

Waste for Food project began in early 2014, when Casa Pampa founders, looking to give their best to the community of Santa Teresa, decided to start composting the neighbours organic waste. The idea was to show community members the valuable resource that could be created with their waste.

Initially organic waste from local grocery stores and restaurants was collected at the end of each day, and was managed using the ancient technology of composting. By using this process, the organic waste was transported intocable rich organic fertilizer within 3-6 months.

The project developed further as interest grew, and the volunteer program was created within Casa Pampa. With the help of the volunteers, we came to identify the necessity of a more efficient management system for this organic material within the community and created the project, WASTE FOR FOOD.

Understanding the importance of the project and the potential impact it could have on the community, we decided to take further action. The next step was to share our ideas with decision makers connected to prominent organizations that had leverage directly within the community of Santa Teresa and nearby towns.

We presented the project to the Chamber of Tourism of Malpais-Santa Teresa, local environmental NGO's, the Probienestar Association and others, all of whom could see the benefit and positive outcome of our work, and gave us their full formal support.

With the support of these organizations we knew we would have a better chance at encouraging and pressuring law enforcement to create change that would be of extreme benefit to the community and world at large.

Today, Waste for Food Project with the contribution of Casa Pampa multidisciplinary team, community member and supporters has become a real alternative food efficient waste management and leads the development of the local government Compost education campaign.
